«Kassensturz» and the consumer organization FRC have tested twelve of the best-selling sunblock cremes for children. They tested whether the sun protection factor (SPF) was correct. The SPF depends on the UVB filter and tells you how long you can stay in the sun before getting sunburnt. This protection is important because extended exposure to UVB rays can cause skin cancer. They also tested how well the cremes filter out UVA rays. These are weaker than UVB rays, but penetrate deeper into the skin and can hasten the ageing process. According to an EU recommendation, the UVA protection has to be at least a third of the UVB protection level. With an SPF of 30, the UVA protection thus has to be at least 10. In this, three of the cremes were judged ‘unsatisfactory’. The Sun Look Kids Sun Spray SPF 30 achieved a score of 72 in this test and was declared the winner! |
